Blow Up

In the continuity of the larger project "Unconformities", Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige have created sculptures representing fossils, fauna and flora and other natural ou archeological elements found beneath our feet. Elements, techno-fossils that have changed state from organic to mineral.

Based on encounter with botanists, archaeologists and prehistorians, the sculptures reconstruct some past life with new modes of transmission and modulations of scale.

What's left here, these small traces, don't seem to be visible to the eye, and require to change our point of view, scale or reference, as if through a microscope.

This relationship plunges us strangely into a distant past but also into an abstract, futuristic and almost science-fictional relationship as macro and magnification makes us lose notions of scale.

Blow up searches for the poetic of the fantastic as what the naked eye cannot see and questions the relation to our environment.
Those sculptures are possible narratives that evoke the constant cycles of construction and destruction, forms of existence and the transmissions of living things.
